SRA stands for the Singapore Rowing Association. It is a national sports
association promoting rowing in Singapore and South-east Asia, and is affiliated to the
Singapore National Olympic Council and Singapore Sports Council. SRA is also affiliated
to FISA, which is the International Rowing Federation, and the Asian Rowing Federation.
SRA is also actively promoting rowing for the disabled.
What does rowing include?
Rowing is defined as propelling, by means of oars supported by riggers, a boat which is
fitted with sliding seats to allow most of the propulsive force to be developed by the
oarsmen legs. Rowing includes sculling and sweep rowing*, machine rowing using the Concept
II Ergometer. It is different from the other paddling sports.

What should I do if I want
to take up rowing?
Firstly, you must be able to swim a minimum distance of 200 to 400m, and be able to tread
water.
Secondly, if you are completely new to rowing, you have to register with SRA for the
Learn to Row Programmes.
